Muurla is a Finnish design brand with decades of experience in glass manufacturing. Their products, inspired by Finland’s nature and changing seasons, combine high-quality materials such as wood, glass, and enamel. To strengthen their online presence and compete with larger Finnish brands, Muurla needed a dynamic and flexible webstore that would increase visibility, improve product discovery, and drive online sales.

Starting point

The existing webstore faced several challenges. It was static and lacked flexibility, making it difficult for Muurla to showcase new campaigns and highlight product categories effectively. Many product collections remained hidden due to rigid layouts, and the overall design failed to encourage repeat visits. Additionally, the interface design needed refinement to enhance usability and ensure a seamless shopping experience.

Approach

The redesign introduced a highly flexible and visually dynamic webstore. The homepage was designed to be ever-evolving, allowing Muurla to update campaigns every 10 days with customizable background colors to match campaign visuals. A modular design system featuring versatile content blocks enabled better product visibility, emphasizing Muurla’s stunning photography while reducing reliance on heavy text.

The interaction design was carefully crafted to enhance usability, ensuring smooth navigation and an intuitive shopping experience. The visual approach embraced elegance and approachability, using subtle colors and refined typography to let the imagery take center stage. Unlike traditional Finnish design brands that favor earthy tones, Muurla’s fresh and vibrant aesthetic set it apart while reinforcing its friendly, accessible brand identity.
